TRADITIONS AND FESTIVITIES
Traditional holidays in the mountain are an awkward mixture of Barbarian rituals, Christian celebrations and modern culture. It is the spirit of Balkan people taken through the centuries, a moral message from the past to the future.
On religious holidays and church days, they still take out the miraculous icons; pilgrims and tourists share the holiness and experience some unforgettable moments. It is quite enjoyable on Gergyovden (Day of St. George) with the green cradles in Open Air Museum of Etura, as well as on Enyovden when everyone can pass through the magical wreath with herbs for health and long life. Old Christmas customs come to life all around the region, along with the celebrations on Easter or Tsvetnitsa and the bells of mummer’s dances in Pavel bania during the first Sunday before Lent ring throughout the whole Rose valley.
Picturesque village fairs and horse races on Todorovden in the town of Apriltsi wake the mountain with rhythms and scents.The Festival of the Plum and the Plum Brandy in Troyan reveals a long-kept secret – the production of Troyan plum brandy, elixir of long life. Where it is, there is also enjoyment.
Spring Carnival in Gabrovo is one of the most exciting events in the town. Citizens and guests together laugh at the vices of life and leave in a good spirit.
Young people from a number of Balkan countries take their dreams of a better future to Gabrovo and Kazanlak during the Youth Festivals held annually.
Art events in Tryavna, Troyan and Bojentsi provide a moving touch with eternal arts as well as the traditional Slaveikov’s Days, which held in Tryavna in June.
The queen of flowers – rose – gathers annually hundreds of guests to its Rose Festival in Kazanlak organized in the best season when the air is thick with its aroma. In Pavel Bania the people celebrate the festival of the Rose and the healing Mineral water.
Tsvetnitsa and the Day of Lovech (May 11) are traditional events in the Town of Lilacs, attended by local people and guests with pleasure and interest and the Lovech music Festival already attracts a lot of pop-stars from the whole world . 
In May the village of Gorna Rositsa near Sevlievo gathers the admirers of adventures at its moto-polygon, to attend the World Moto-Cross Championship. The Pumpkin Feast in the beginning of October offers a lot of delicious pumpkin temptations and fantasies to the guests. Guests from near and afar are welcomed in Gorna Oryahovitsa in the beginning of summer, at the International Festival of Tourist Songs and the traditional competitions of armwrestling.
